Vascular Lesions - IPL

 

These are typically broken capillaries or spider veins. During the treatment, a specific wavelength of pulsed light is directed at the lesion. It's absorbed by the hemoglobin chromophore (a red protein responsible for transporting oxygen to the blood in the lesion). Pigmented Lesions - IPL

 

These are darkened spots on the skin. Their causes vary. They can be hereditary, or appear after hormonal changes like childbirth. The majority of pigmented lesions known as 'sunspots' or 'solar lentigo' are caused by exposure to the sun's damaging UV rays and begin to appear around the age of 40. During the treatment, a specific wavelength of pulsed light is emitted into the skin. The lesion absorbs the light energy which causes it to break and eventually disappear while leaving the rest of the skin unharmed.
